Look Again and Consecrate

30 ‘If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?’ (Matthew 6:30, NIV)
‘If God’s providence adorns the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, how much more will He care for you? Alas, how meager your faith!’ (Wu Jinxiong Literary Translation)
Brother Oswald Chambers mentions the word “simple”—a simple, pure life. I’ve always advocated for and pursued “simplicity” in design, but I’ve never thought about the simplicity of life. Is my life simple and pure?
I think not. My life, my mind, is filled with all sorts of desires, worries, pressures, judgments, discontent, and anxieties—it’s packed with them. Like a landfill, cluttered and piled high.
I always envy kids around four or five years old. Their lives are so pure and carefree. A piece of paper, a leaf, can make them incredibly happy, reaching the level of “pure joy.” Their lives are simple, pure, clear.
Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” I want to ask Jesus just like Nicodemus did, “Rabbi, now that I’ve reached middle age, how can I become like a child?”
Today, Lord, please help me and lead me to “turn” back to you, to cast all worries and anxieties on you. Help me clear and purify the room of my soul, so that my life slowly becomes simple.
Why do I arrogantly think I’m wiser and more capable than Jesus Christ in my work (design), family life, and interpersonal relationships? May God grant me the faith to rely on Him simply.
Thank God for:
- My son Anran, even though he was very tired at night, insisted on staying up until after our family worship to sleep. Thank God for guiding his change;
- Thank God for Brother Yongfan helping me solve an issue with Figma auto layout;
- Honestly, it’s quite hard to think of something from yesterday worth thanking for (something new). With the pandemic keeping us home, external communications and interactions have become few. When there’s no “intersection” with others, no events occur, then “thanks” and being “thanked” naturally don’t happen. I need more communication with family, friends, and brothers and sisters.
- Thanks to the people who come into the community to buy groceries every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. When I get up at 5:30 AM, they are already setting up tents and moving produce. Today’s a rainy day.
