Leave Room for God

Jan 25, 2021 at 6:21 AM

15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any human being. (Galatians 1:15-16, NIV)

Oswald Chambers says, focus on Jesus himself and hope for his coming, not expecting him to arrive on our terms — that’s how to “leave room for God.”

How much do I hope for Jesus to come? Clearly, not much. In stable, smooth areas of my life, I might look like I “don’t love the world,” but it’s actually a passive contentment based on my own ability, lacking in Christ, losing the drive to press forward. In the unknowns, problems, and adversities, my heart has grown numb, to the point of giving up. For example, my aging parents still don’t believe in the Lord, but I pray and work little towards that. Or my son Anran’s persistent eczema — I’ve prayed little about it. As if saying “Let it be, what can I do?” In the end, it’s a lack of faith, a small faith.

Thank God for setting me apart from my mother’s womb, and leading me back to His house when I was 23. It was a turning point in my life’s journey. Lord, help me not to be “a lover of the world.” Lovers of the world, after experiencing God’s grace, want to use it to achieve more, better their own life plans and fulfill their own life’s meaning. But those who follow God, after experiencing His grace, are to “leave everything they have” and follow Jesus; (moved by yesterday’s sermon)

Grateful for:

  1. Thank God for the mutual care, understanding, and support between my wife Yanbing and me, especially when handling conflicts with the kids. When I’m upset with the kids, she’s calm, gentle, and comforts me. It works the other way too. I believe it’s God’s leading and help. Thank God for marriage and family in Christ.
  2. Thank God for the sermon about “leaving everything to follow Jesus.” YT’s words were gentle, calm, sometimes even a bit monotonous, yet direct (Eather’s comment) and powerful. Thank God for His word. And thank the preacher for the hard work;
  3. Thank the Lord, we have set up a schedule and plan for the winter break;
